Coverage map for Denmark showing 97% area coverage after two years of operation and a investments of only USD 7.6m according according to PWC audited annual report.
DanCell has managed the Nordisk Mobiltelefon in Denmark operation in all phases from the initial designs in 2003 winning initial spectrum in 2005, and operating the network until the company was successfully sold to EnergiMidt in 2009.
Both in Denmark and abroad, the DanCell have received significant attention for its environmentally friendly and green design of mobile network reducing the CO2 emissions to below 20% of the discharge levels, typical from conventional mobile networks.
Another area that has gained international recognition is the cost effective radio planning management of the Danish network where broadband coverage of 97% of the country has been achieved in a very short time span and with unprecedented low CAPEX and OPEX.
DanCell A/S has also been credited for the success of its lean management concept which allowed the Danish operation to continue unaffected by the financial crisis in 2008, while other companies in the industry had to go through bankruptcy and reconstruction due to liquidity problems.
The Danish branch of Nordisk Mobiltelefon(NMD) in Denmark (currently marketed under the ICE.NET brand) may be a considered the gem in
the ICE.NET group valued at USD 200m by Nordea Bank and Devoteam after
investments of less than USD 7m after just two years of commercial
operations according to annual report audited by PWC.
DanCell CEO Erik Hornung headed NMD and with his dedicated and innovative staff created a company valued at USD 200m after two years of operations and total investments of USD 7m..
The NMD
project clearly demonstrates that virtues of a dedicated innovative
staff and management combined with conservative financial operations
focused on value creation for shareholders and the customers in
turbulent times. Check for details on valuations.
Today the network is branded under the ice.net label and has by far the most effective broadband coverage in the country. More information about ice.net in Denmark can be found at http://www.ice-net.dk. The English translation of the web page can be found at the following link.
“By
effective spectrum management we have a unique opportunity to provide
broadband coverage to every corner of the Earth”, says CEO Erik
Hornung, CEO of Copenhagen based DanCell, and uses his own country as
example. “In cooperation with Danish regulator ITST, he has managed to
free up spectrum to allow for a very environmentally effective
implementation of mobile broadband allowing access to the network from
even the most remote corners of the country”.
“This
allows people to work from home and rural industries to be vastly more
effective thus increasing the prosperity in rural Denmark and reducing
the traffic pressure on the main roads leading into the capital and
major cities as more people get the opportunity to work locally.”
"One
of the obvious but often overlooked aspects of a wider access to the
Internet is the ability to reduce pressure on roads and the huge CO2
emissions and wasted in queues around major cities. Consider as an
example only at the impact it will have in everyday life, if every day
were 10 to 15% fewer cars in the inbound direction on the roads and
around major cities? "
