2.5 GHz spectrum auctions: Auctions for additional spectrum are ongoing in several countries at the moment. Auctions have already taken place in Sweden and Norway along with 3+ GHz auctions in Germany and UK. The valuation of spectrum in these cases were less than 1% of the valuation for the UMTS licenses. However, this does not suggest that prices will not be higher in the coming auctions.

The unprecedented low costs for acquiring the spectrum gives the operators a unique opportunity to act as catalysts for economic growth with new services - or alternatively to just sit on the spectrum.
